I noticed a need to simplify how disposal fees are calculated for different locations in Australia. To help with this, I built a tool that automates the process, saving you the hassle of manual data collection.
You can try the calculator below. I’d love to hear your thoughts or feedback—feel free to send me a message.

If you’re heading to the Yarrawonga Resource Recovery Centre, this calculator helps you estimate your cost before you leave home. Add what you’re dropping off (general waste, green waste, concrete, mattresses, tyres, and more) and you’ll see a total straight away.
This page uses the official Moira Shire Council fee schedule, plus key rules like the 2m³ household limit and what items aren’t accepted.
How this Yarrawonga tip fees calculator works
The calculator is built for real-life loads, not just one item.
- Pick a waste type (for example: General waste, Green waste, Concrete, Mattress, Tyres).
- Choose the correct rate when needed (like Resident vs Non-resident).
- Enter the amount:
- m³ for volume-based items (general waste, green waste, concrete)
- items/tyres for per-item fees
- Click Add to total and repeat for the rest of your load.
If you add electronic waste, the calculator shows a range total (because council lists e-waste as $2.50–$12 per item).
Important rule: domestic waste only (and the 2m³ limit)
Moira Shire’s resource recovery centres are for domestic/household waste only. If your household waste is in excess of 2m³, or if you have construction/demolition materials or commercial sized loads, council directs you to Cobram Landfill instead.
That’s why the calculator shows a warning when your total m³ goes above 2.
Quick guide to estimating m³ (cubic metres)
Many tip fees are charged per m³, so here’s a simple way to estimate:
- m³ = length × width × height
- If it’s not full, multiply by your fill percentage:
- 50% full = × 0.5
- 80% full = × 0.8
Example:
A trailer that’s 1.83m × 1.22m × 0.5m at 80% full:
- Volume = 1.83 × 1.22 × 0.5 × 0.8 ≈ 0.89 m³
Use the calculator’s Volume helper to do this without manual math.
What’s free (easy ways to reduce your cost)
Moira Shire lists several items as free, which can reduce your landfill cost if you separate your load properly. For Yarrawonga, this includes things like:
- Mixed recycling for residents (plastics/cans/paper/cardboard)
- Glass
- Organics (household food & gardening)
- Scrap steel
- Car batteries
- DrumMUSTER chemical containers (triple-rinsed)
- Motor oil under 20L
(Availability and acceptance can still depend on the operator and contamination.)
A simple tip: split landfill and recycling before you arrive. It’s usually the fastest way to save money.
Items not accepted (EPA-related restrictions)
Council states it will not accept items such as:
- Liquid waste (except motor oil)
- Dead animals
- Industrial food waste
- Hot ashes
- Hazardous/toxic substances
- Night soil or sewage
- Grease trap waste
- Medical or clinical waste
- Asbestos
- Fly ash
If you’re unsure, don’t guess—check before you unload.
